Debian on Google Cloud: application infrastructure
Compute Engine, web services, databases, release processes, monitoring and recovery in a cloud infrastructure outline.

Application → server → operations
Concept illustration of the workflow
Give an application an operational home
The infrastructure brief described Debian infrastructure on Google Cloud, with Compute Engine instances, persistent storage and the services needed by business applications. The task combined deployment with daily operation: a server needed a defined configuration, protected access, understandable logs and a recovery path.
Hosting, monitoring and recovery
The outline covered CPU, memory and disk choices, network addresses, Apache or Nginx, MariaDB and TLS certificates. Applications could be written in Node.js, Python or PHP. PM2 or systemd were listed for process management, alongside domain and DNS configuration and a delivery pipeline.
Firewall rules, SSH keys and Fail2Ban appeared in the protection plan. Google Cloud Monitoring and logs would expose CPU, memory and errors, with alerts for thresholds. Persistent disks, database and application backups in Google Cloud Storage, and boot-disk snapshots were part of recovery planning. Redis, database tuning and a CDN were proposed as optimisation options. Their effect was not measured.
The Debian remote-desktop example
The source also included a Debian 11 remote-desktop walkthrough using LXDE and XRDP. That walkthrough provides historical context; its instructions for opening a public port are not reproduced here. It should not be used as a current operational runbook. Remote administration should be designed for the actual network and access model.
Testing in the original outline covered service operation, certificates, firewall behaviour and resources. The section mentions Debian 11–13 but describes a Debian 11 setup in detail; it does not establish production deployments of all versions or measured availability.
Explore DevOps and infrastructure, custom APIs and Python data processing. Discuss deployment and recovery for your application.
The original infrastructure description
The earlier infrastructure page describes requirements and an implementation outline. It does not confirm a final rollout, current operation or measured business results.
