PRACTICAL INSIGHT

The server: data, access and workflow coordination

Why a system needs a shared core that preserves state, checks permissions and coordinates data processing.

Preserve the state of work

The server sits at the centre of the diagram because it connects the participants. The interface presents data, AI proposes extracted values, and workers execute jobs. The server receives requests and coordinates access to preserved state. Here, server describes an application role; several services can fulfil it without relying on a single machine.

For a business owner, the practical question is where an accepted order goes when an employee closes the browser. Design begins with saving the record and its current state. An acknowledgement should match what the system has actually preserved.

Check permissions and changes

The server applies business rules: who can read a record, edit its fields or approve a transition. Requests from different interfaces should follow agreed restrictions. Check permission for each action, rather than only when someone signs in.

Consider document processing. The server saves the source and a job; a worker extracts fields; an employee reviews disputed values. Following approval, the server records the new status and coordinates the next step. This is a workflow design example, without implying an existing live connection.

Plan recovery separately

Application startup, data preservation and operational readiness need separate checks. Docker restart policies govern container restarts. This mechanism alone does not define how to restore data or resume an unfinished order.

Agree backups and restoration checks, error monitoring and an owner for stalled work. After a restart, an employee should be able to distinguish finished jobs, pending work and cases needing intervention.
