PROJECT

Employee onboarding as a connected workflow

Roles, documents, training and reminders in an onboarding application with Google Workspace integrations.

HR & onboarding

Employee → tasks → readiness

Concept illustration of the workflow

Tasks, documents and training in one place

An onboarding process brings together HR, managers and new employees, but its information often lives in separate messages, documents and calendars. The project brief called for a shared application where people could see the next task, submit documents and follow the status of training. Administrators would configure workflows; HR managers would assign work; employees would see their own content and obligations.

The proposed application and integrations

The implementation outline combined Next.js, TypeScript and TailwindCSS for the interface with Node.js and Express for an API. MariaDB would hold users, onboarding records and task progress. JWT authentication and role permissions were part of the access model, with a separate administrative dashboard for workflow configuration.

The workflow covered contracts and identity documents, policies, training schedules, deadlines and reminders. Google Workspace APIs connected document storage and notifications; Google Calendar connected training appointments. Twilio or Mailgun were named as options for SMS and email. The content area supported videos, PDFs and progress by training module.

Tracking progress and pending work

The proposed dashboard showed task completion, pending steps and the time spent in onboarding stages. Testing included integration, access boundaries and usability; cloud deployment on GCP or AWS was part of the outline. Data protection and permission rules were requirements, not a certification claim.
